By a Minute order from the Acting Colonial Secretary of 29th March I was authorised to draw half the uncorrected salary of Registrar, $40 a month, from 1st January of this year.

Up to the date of my appointment as Acting Registrar to the end of 1876 I paid into the Treasury $136.67 being the Fees I had received during that period.

When I accepted the appointment of Acting Registrar on the understanding that I paid the Fees into the Treasury, I did so in the contemplation to make an application in the salary of the office and believing that I should eventually, have the benefit of any increase under you.
